About Breed

The German Shepherd Dog (GSD) is considered a large breed dog. On average, the male can weigh in upwards of 90 pounds and the female around 70 pounds, S/he is known for his/her loyalty to the family and would do anything to defend their loved ones. They are confident and courageous, yet gentle with their family members. They are highly intelligent and have the innate ability to learn commands quickly. The GSD is an excellent guardian and are aloof with strangers. Differing opinions on the life expectancy of the GSD vary. The American Kennel Club (AKC) shows 7 to 10 years, while some reputable breeders show 9 to 13 years. A good loving home, with quality food, and an active lifestyle may bring you many years with your faithful friend.
